in this video, i briefly describe where business rules get executed within the data vault methodology.
Hi Dan,
I enjoyed the tropical setting.
Am I right that integrating data from different sources (with different technical keys) around for instance a customer Hub has also to be considered as a hard business rule?
I am asking this question because this looks to me as a central issue in the Raw Data Vault discussion.
Hi Rob,
Thanks for the comment. The Hawaiian shirt is my corporate uniform, if you check my site: http://empoweredHoldings.com you’ll see my branding for my theme! I felt it was time to “make a splash?” Anyhow, it warms me up, especially since it’s cold here with 4ft of snow on the ground outside the house.
Regarding your question… Yes, you are correct. The problem with “splitting the rules up” is this: there is a grey line, or a fuzzy area in between what’s a hard and what’s a soft business rule… BUT, I personally consider the integration rules of business keys to be hard-rules, because they “don’t change the meaning” and they “don’t change the data” and they “don’t change the grain”… Really all the integration of these business keys is: is “de-duplication” and “who got loaded first” That’s what this is all about when loading the Hubs.
Hope this helps,
Dan L
