Whats with the hawaiian shirt and the beach back drop?
I almost want to disregard this information because of it.

    Hi David,

I was just having a little fun. We in IT always seem to take things way too seriously. It’s time we lightened up. I’ve spent over 25+ years in the industry being serious, wearing suits and earning my stripes. I still present in seriousness with suits, ties, and formal attire, however, this was just for fun. If you feel like dis-regarding the information because of my attire, I guess that’s your prerogative. I will be posting more videos, and other videos with more serious and mundane attire in the future. If it helps, feel free to check out my background at: http://linkedin.com/in/dlinstedt, look at other videos on: http://YouTube.com/learnDataVault, or search images on google for “Dan Linstedt”

I did not mean to offend anyone, and your comment will be taken into consideration. Again, it was just meant as a bit-of-fun.

    Best regards,
    Dan Linstedt

    Hi Dan,

I was wondering if these concepts still persist in DV2.0? I’ve been working at a client site where everyone has recently been trained by you and I’ve come in with a DV1.0 background and they are all debating about column names in Satellites. The main thrust is whether changing a column name on the way into the Raw DV is allowed, or a good idea? For example a source system has a column “FirstName” but our business has agreed to use the term “GivenName” at an enterprise level. If we carefully analyse the source data and it only contains first names (given names), is it permissible to apply a Hard Business Rule and change the column name? This also applies to column names that are internal codes for the OTPL system and don’t have any business meaning, but the content has a clear business meaning. I guess where it gets challenging is where the source data hasn’t been properly analysed.
And finally, what is the recommended way to handle this? It may be permissible to maintain source columns or change them … but what *should* we do?
